The Lithuanian rock festival Be2gether was held recently right at the border with Belarus. At the foot of the medieval castle in Norvelishkes the tent- camp was set up .Around 10000 people had come to Lithuania for the rock festival. That was the first event of the kind: 60 teams from Europe and the USA participated in the concerts. The festival’s motto was “Music Opening Boarders!” It was aimed at settling good neighborhood relationship of Belarus and the European Union.
Among the spectators were a lot of Belarusians: the stage was installed 300 meters off the border. It was not difficult to recognize our people –great many white-red-white flags spoke for themselves. The slogans”Long Live, Belarus!” and “Belarus to Europe!”were continuously heard from all over the place .
Three popular Belarusian groups Lyapis Trubetskoy, IQ 48, Drum Extasy took part in the festival. The most popular Lithuanian musicians and singers also participated in the concert , among those Andrews Mamontavas , Skamp,G&G sindikatas, Pieno lazeriai, Joana with her new project”Joana and the Wolf”. Other countries’ musical representatives also came to Norvelishkes: Leaves from Iceland, Poets of the Fall from Finland, Tribes of the City from Latvia, Myslovitz from Poland.
Part of the sum received for the sold out festival tickets the organizers sent to the children from the Belarusian town Chechersk affected by the Chernobyl disaster.
The festival was held in a peaceful manner without any incidents. Just on the contrary, its organizers mentioned the high cultural level of the participants.
“It was not only the musical concert but the spectacular show at the crossroads of several cultures. The last border in Europe is the iron border. It will be dismantled by music. I mean not only material boarder but the spiritual border which exists in our minds”, Gedrius Klimkyavichus, organizer of the festival, declared.
The representatives of several embassies of the European countries to Belarus also came to the Be2gether festival as well as the foreign minister of Lithuania Piatras Vaitekunas.
It is to be mentioned that 9 August the foreign ministry of Belarus made the declaration in which it remarked that the Lithuanian side bore full responsibility for “observation of the state boarder procedure and prevention of the incidents caused by the mass gathering of the people at the boarder territory”.
The foreign ministry of Lithuania quickly allayed worries of the Belarusian side.”The rock festival Be2Gether is targeted at moving the Belarusian and Lithuanian people together .The Lithuanian party is to provide all the required safety measures during the event”, the spokesman of the external political body of Lithuania declared.
