Stanislau Shushkevich: “I am a Catholic” 13:45, 03/09/2007
A former chairman of the Supreme Soviet Stanislau Shushkevich repulses allegations of the Belarusian TV that he propagates a sect prohibited in Belarus, The Unification started by Sun Myung Moon. “I state that I have never been a member of any religious sect. I am a Catholic. I believe that Catholic priests behave in our situation like real spiritual leaders should behave,” the politician said in an interview to the Charter’97 press-center.
“It is true that I met Sun Myung Moon at conferences dedicated to the movement of South and North Korea reunification. But former leaders of Germany, the US, Poland, Indonesia (for instance, Bush Sr, Lech Valesa), and professors of Belarusian universities, deputies of today’s “chamber of representatives” (for instance, deputy Katlyarou), Belarusian war veterans,” Stanislau Shushkevich explained.
As said by Stanislau Shushkevich, sometimes Sun Myung Moon funds such international conferences, and as one of sponsors he is gives an opportunity to address the participants. “The point is that conferences are organized by South Korea, but they are sponsored also by private structures, well-known Korean firms, including Moon church,” the former speaker of the Supreme Soviet added.
