Arrests for defense of monastery building and St. Joseph’s Church 11:17, 03/09/2007
On September 2 in the evening representatives of the “Young Front” and “Belarusian Christian Democracy” were arrested during collection of signatures.
As said by activists, all the day near the Red Church in Minsk activists collected signatures for repeal of law “On Freedom of Conscience” and return of the former Bernardine monastery to Catholic Church. About 700 signatures were collected before the dinner. After a break Young Front activists planned to continue, but three policemen who had been watching them for some tome approached them.
After a personal search of the six young activists, including three girls, they were taken to a police department for identification. In about 40 minutes, after policemen copied passport details and looked through all personal belongings of the activists, they were released.
