Martinau‘s top position in Non-Alliance Movement :: Charter'97 :: News

Non-Alliance Movement can and must raise more actively the human rights issue, foreign minister of the Republic of Belarus Syargei Martinau considers. He declared that in his speech delivered in Teheran (Iran) at the meeting on human rights and cultural pluralism of foreign ministers of the Non-Alliance Movement member states. According to the BelaPAN quoting the foreign ministry of the Republic of Belarus press office, the event is the first conference in the framework of the Non-Alliance Movement on human rights.

Head of the Belarusian external policy body remarked that the human rights are not less close to the Non-Alliance Movement member states than to the other states and standpoints of the member states of this organization on the subject are no less firm than of the other states. The movement is to become an important factor in considering the human rights subject and it must consolidate its standpoint on the issue, S.Martinau said.

Belarusian minister also thanked member states of the Non-Alliance Movement for supporting the initiative of the heads of Belarus on acknowledgement of plurality of ways of development and for seconding to the resolution on encouragement of the dialogue on human rights based on rights equality and mutually respect proposed by Belarus at the 61 session of the UNO General Assembly.

Head of the Belarusian foreign ministry has been elected the deputy chairman of the foreign ministers meeting. His meeting with chairman of the Non-Alliance Movement foreign minister of Cuba Felipe Peres Roke was held within the conference framework. Further cooperation on consolidation of the Non-Alliance Movement role , active promotion of the conference proceedings as well as the issues of the Belarusian-Cuban cooperation in different spheres were discussed at the meeting, the press- service reports.

The foreign ministers’ meeting is due to close 4 September.
