Belarus to build APS on the border with Lithuania 18:00, 06/09/2007
Among other promising sites for atomic power plant construction Belarus considers the territory in the Hrodna region on the border with Lithuania, deputy chairman of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Uladzimir Tsimashpolsky reported at the press-conference in Minsk on Thursday.
“Primarily we considered 54 promising sites and then left 2-3 of them: Krasnapalyanskaya, Kukshinauskaya and another one in the Hrodna region on the border with Lithuania, Uladzimir Tsimashpolsky specified to the Interfax.
“We are curious to know why Lithuania is eager to burry the wastes of the Ignalina atomic plant on the boarder with Belarus. We should also consider the might-be construction of atomic facilities in that region”, he said.
He also stressed that among the arguments of the site selection Belarus takes into account the political component either but the most important one is the atomic power plant security’.
