About 30 companies under the authority of the economy ministry will be converted into stock corporations by the end of the year, Deputy Economy Minister Aleh Melnikaw said at the Sixth International Congress of CIS Appraisers held in Minsk on September 6.
He said that among them were two cement plants that were already undergoing the ownership reform, BelaPAN reported.
"Privatization should not [take place] just for the sake of privatization, a change of the business sign, but for increasing the efficiency of the company, the industry, the economy in general," he said.
When asked about the government`s plans for petrochemical companies, the deputy minister said that the economy ministry "considers this measure in principle" but stressed that companies would be sold only on certain conditions and only when it would be of benefit to the "republic."
"We already know all necessary approaches. If need be, we will invite bids. Or this will be a direct sale," he said.
