Beaten up when detained
13:42, 10/09/2007

Among the activists detained near the Baranavichi district court were youth leaders Zmitser Fedaruk, Pavel Sevyarinets, activists Ivan and Ilyia Shilas, photo –correspondents of the Reuters and France Press Vasil Fedosenka and Viktar Drachou.

“The people were beaten up. Ivan Shila’s trousers were torn. My coat was also torn. People were knocked down. The detainments were committed roughly”, Pavel Sevyarinets reported to the Charter’97 press center.

Now all the detained are in the yard of the Baranavichi remand jail.

Around 20 people have been detained in Baranavichi where the trial of the Young Front activist Yaraslau Grischenya is being held. People standing at the court building and shouting “Freedom!” and “Long Live Belarus!” were being detained by the special militia regiment (former OMON).

It is to be mentioned that Yaraslau Grischenya is being tried for “participation in the unregistered organization”.
