Alexander Yaroshuk addressed to Rector of the Brest State University 18:31, 19/09/2007
Alexander Yaroshuk, Chairperson of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions addressed to Mecheslav Chesnovsky, Rector of the Brest State University named after A. S. Pushkin in connection with new facts of pressure that its management exerts on members of the Belarusian Free Trade Union (SPB).
It is worth reminding that four University professors have been forced to leave SPB structure after a conversation with the first Pro-Rector of the University Anna Sender. The representative of management suggested they quit trade union in exchange for keeping their jobs. Alexander Yaroshuk warned the official about responsibility for interference in activity of trade unions. “In this respect I officially warn you that you have stepped on rather dangerous way of violating the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus and the Law “On Trade Unions”. I remind you that intervention in activity of trade unions envisages responsibility up to criminal responsibility” - says the BCDTU leader’s address.
In addition, Alexander Yaroshuk reminded the Brest State University Rector that similar actions threaten to disrupt implementation by the Government of the country of recommendations, made by the International Labor Organization (ILO) and returning Belarus into the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) in trade with the European Union. “I warn about your personal responsibility to the country and its people for the losses that are estimated to be many millions of euro, which you have assumed, openly ignoring and violating rights of trade unions”, - declared the Chairperson of independent trade union center.
