Natallia Pyatkevich received letter of European March organizing committee
15:47, 20/09/2007

The European March organizers read their letter to the Belarusian authorities at the press- conference in Minsk .In the letter they asked the deputy head of the president’s administration Natallia Pyatkevich for the meeting to discuss organizational issues of the European March, the Radio Svaboda reports.

19 September the participants of the negotiation group of the European March organizing committee Andrei Sannikov, Mikhail Marynich, Stanislau Bahdankevich, Yuri Kadoka and Viktar Ivashkevich met with journalists at the headquarters of the BNF party. Nine days before they sent an appeal to the president’s administration.

“We have learnt that the letter was received and sent for consideration to the president’s administration. The content of the letter implies addressing not only Pyatkevich or Lukashenka all state officials”, Viktar Ivashkevich reported at the press- conference.

It is said in the appeal that the European March initiative appeared due to intentions of the opposition to bring Belarus closer to Europe and the declarations of the authorities in reinforcement of the European vector. But until now no reply has been received, yet. According to the members of the negotiating group a step forward to agreement can be made through the joint and peaceful holding of the European March.

Viktar Ivashkevich said:

“There was an appeal of the European Commission to the Belarusian people and authorities. .We are giving the answer. Now the authorities should think about their answer. We call the authorities for understanding that their positive answer is beneficial for them. The authorities’ problem is a might-be coup-d’etat of the pro-Russian officials who intend to disperse the march. Let us not become the object of the Russian secret service intention to make a coup”.

The situation is that the negotiation group faces resistances of young members of the opposition who ask whom you want to talk to. They demand no talks with the criminal regime. But if the authorities make provocations the destructive forces will grow .That will be useless both for the authorities and the opposition”.

Yuri Khadika declared:” Opposition does its best for organizing the peaceful action without detainments, political imprisonment and patrol wagons. And that is beneficial for authorities as cooperation with the European Union is impossible without that.”

Andrei Sannikov is going to Brussels soon on behalf of the organizing commission of the action. The visit is aimed at activating the campaign in support of the European March and democratization of Belarus.

“The march is a reply to the European Union’s appeal .As the EU commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner mentioned the 12 proposals of the EU were addressed both to the authorities and to the people of Belarus. She also mentioned that the Belarusian government had taken no serious steps. That is why the march will be a reply of the Belarusian people. There are a lot of people supporting the European development direction of Belarus”.

Confrontation did no good either to opposition or authorities. There won’t be any rebellion there. There is the intention to manifest supporting of the European development direction of Belarus and to hold a peaceful action”.
