Statement of Founders of Movement «For Freedom»
17:14, 20/09/2007

The Statement of the founders of the Movement “For Freedom” concerning the refusal of the Supreme Court to overrule the decision of the ministry of justice not to grant the legal registration status to the Movement “For Freedom”.

By validating the decision of the ministry of justice and refusing to grant the legal registration status to the Movement “For Freedom”, the Supreme Court of Belarus has taken a politically motivated decision. It endorsed the non-competent, null and void arguments of the Ministry of Justice.

Each official who dictates such decisions or implements them should know that he or she is committing a crime against the Belarusian people and bears responsibility for that. Such decisions throw Belarus back in its development, reinforce the international isolation of our country and prevent it from beneficial cooperation with democratic nations.

The Movement “For Freedom” will appeal to the UN Human Rights Committee in order to fix internationally another case of the flagrant violations of the freedom of association that have long become systematic in Belarus.

We will continue to seek the legal registration status in order among others to reveal the absurdity of the Belarusian government’s policies, the absence of the rule of law mechanisms in Belarus and the unwillingness of the authorities to respect the fundamental human rights and freedoms. By our activism we will hold the Belarusian government responsible before the Belarusian society and international community for its record of illegal and repressive acts.
