Arrested Navitsky deprived of lawyer
18:37, 21/09/2007

Democratic activist Leanid Navitsky is still kept at the Partisansky district militia department in Minsk. Lawyer Pavel Sapelka was not allowed to meet with the defendant. He was not brought to the court either.

According to the lawyer, the report was made of Leanid Navitsky’s charges under Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative offences (violation of the mass action procedure). For participation in the European March preparations the activists was charged of calling for unsanctioned action. He has not been brought to the court. That is why it is highly probable that until Monday he may be kept in the remand jail in Akrestin Street until Monday.

Leanid Navitsky was detained the at the Minsk Partisansky district. According to Navitsky’s friends, he was arrested for participation in the European March preparations.

To make a breakthrough in the European direction and save the Belarusian economy the opposition persistently suggests the authorities to hold the European March together. The negotiating group of the European March sent a corresponding letter to the deputy chairman of the president’s administration Natallia Pyatkevich. However, the authorities and, particularly, deputy chairman of the president’s administration keep silent, on the one hand, and initiates repressions against pro-European-minded youth, on the other hand.

Such standpoint may cause not only refusal of economic assistance demanded by the authorities from Europe but to new sanctions to be imposed .And chairman of the president’s administration Natallia Pyatkevich and internal minister Uladzimir Navumau will be responsible for that.
