Joint enterprise to organize the extraction and processing of brown coal will be established within week 15:37, 21/09/2007
A joint enterprise to organize the extraction and processing of brown coal in Belarus will be registered within a week, Prime Minister Syarhey Sidorski said while touring the Minsk region on September 20.
He said that the project would be carried out within five or six years and that up to $3 billion would be invested in it.
The partners in the enterprise are Belarus’ AAT Belharkhimproam and Luxembourg’s Polar Stars Group S.A. According to Mr. Sidorski, a feasibility study for the project is expected to be completed within two or three months.
Belarus’ brown coal reserves are estimated at some two billion tons. The joint enterprise is expected to organize the conversion of brown coal into synthetic fuels. The Belarusian Academy of Sciences estimates the project at about $700 million and the would-be output of motor fuels at 600,000 tons a year.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka met with Polar Stars Group President Nikolay von Keler on September 18.
