Belarusian Ambassador Conveyed Lukashenka’s Greetings To Assad

Belarusian Ambassador to Syria Aliaksandr Panamarou met with the Minister of Presidential Palace Affairs Mansour Azzam Fadlallah.

The meeting took place on November 15. That was reported to website charter97.org in the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

“The two sides exchanged views on the status and prospects of the Belarusian-Syrian relations, with emphasis on political and economic component, coordinated mechanism for the further implementation of the agreements reached during the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Uladzimir Makei to Syria and the sixth session of the joint Belarusian-Syrian commission for trade, economic and technical cooperation,“ – the statement said.

Uladzimir Makei was with an official visit to Syria on February 8-9 this year. He met with President Bashar al-Assad, whom he conveyed a message from Aliaksandr Lukashenka, and with other senior government officials.

Bashar al-Assad has been ruling Syria since 2000. Last time he was re-elected as the president of the country in the "elections" in 2014, which were held during the civil war and were not recognized by international organizations and Western countries. He is accused of large-scale crackdowns and extermination of the political opposition in the country, the oppression of the Kurdish minority, as well as the use of chemical weapons against the civilian population. International organizations have reported on Bashar al-Assad’s financing of such terrorist organizations as Hezbollah, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad movement.
