Energy Self-sufficience of Occupied Crimea Will Cost Russia $2 Billion

Russia will have to spend more than $2 billion to ensure energy independence of the occupied Crimea.

The Russian Vedomosti newspaper informs citing calculations of Renaissance Capital analyst Vladimir Sklyar, Censor.NET reports.

He estimated that the peninsula required 1350 MW for its energy security. The Rostov nuclear power plant will increase generation of energy for this purpose as well as four combined cycle gas turbine units with total capacity of 940 MW will be built on the Taman Peninsula.

The gas turbine units' construction project will cost about $ 1.1-1.3 billion. The additional capacity for generation of 1 GW in Crimea will cost another $400-450 million.

As reported, the energy supply of the occupied Crimea was cut off Nov. 22 after the destruction of four power transmission towers in the Kherson region of Ukraine, which delivered energy to the occupied Crimea.
