Raman Yakauleuski: To serve coffee in buckets – that’s Lukashenka’s peacemaking

In his own words, Aliaksandr Lukashenka was just serving coffee in buckets.

United Nations Secretary-General is Ban Ki-moon noted an important role of Lukashenka in eliminating the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

This statement has been commented to Radio Racyja by a diplomatic analyst Raman Yakauleuski, according to whom, “the participation of Lukashenka in the UN conference in New York should not be exaggerated, and also his role in the peacemaking mission and Donbas talks in Minsk, as propaganda mass media do.”

“By the way, Lukashenka told so himself, that he had been just serving coffee in buckets – that was his peacekeeping, nothing more than that. So I would talk modestly about him as a peacemaker. It’s true, he offered a safe haven, a venue for these talks. But I would not name his personal role a peacemaker,” Raman Yakauleuski noted.

“However, the United Nations Conference is also just an international venue, where leaders of all member countries are invited,” the analyst added. According to him, breakthrough in the relations of Belarus and the US would be obvious only in case Lukashenka is officially received in the White House, for example.
