Former Head Of Uzda District Executive Committee Is Judged For Bribery

The officer received 8000 euro from a foreign businessman to win a tender.

On January 28 the hearing of the criminal case against the former chairman of Uzda executive committee and the director of Uzda district agricultural service company started.

Viachaslau Paholchyk and Aliaksandr Bich (not dismissed from his post of director of the JSC) are charged with an offense under Part 3 of Article 430 of the Criminal Code (bribery). This is reported by the website naviny.by.

Two more people are named as defendants in the case. A German businessman Vladimir Streichert is accused of illegal trafficking of arms and ammunition and bribery, a manager Pavel Valiukevich is accused of bribery.

On March 26, 2015, the defendants were detained by officers of the Economic Crimes Department of Internal Affairs of Minsk Executive Committee at the time of receiving a bribe in the amount of 8 million euros from the representatives of foreign manufacturers of agricultural equipment for the organization of the contract and winning the tender. Then the Interior Ministry announced that 8000 euros was not the final sum.

Vladimir Streichert is a native of Northern Kazakhstan. 28 years ago he went to Germany. He is a citizen of the Federal Republic of Germany and Russia. He has a residence permit in Belarus, registered in Brest region. A few years ago he built an apartment in Minsk. Streichert is a German company's CEO.

At the very beginning of the trial Streichert filed a request to change his measure of restraint from detention to house arrest or bail, because he has a number of chronic diseases (two operations on the heart and he needs an oxygen bag at night) and acquired (he’s chilled his kidney, in particular) for 10 months in jail. At the same time he has an apartment in Minsk, he is not going to hide, says that he is a law-abiding citizen.

The lawyers of the accused supported the request, the prosecutor spoke against. The Court found no grounds to satisfy the request of the accused.
