The decision of the Ministry of Labour to cut down working hours in 2017 will take its toll.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has established a norm of working hours for 2017.

For a five-day working week with days off on Saturday and Sunday the estimated number of working hours is 2019, for a six-day working week with a day off on Sunday - 2021 hours.

The estimated number of working hours calculated for 2017 is lower than in the last two years, but higher than in 2013 and 2014.

Should the Belarusians worry about the reduction of working hours in the next year? The chairman of the Belarusian Trade Union of Radio Electronic Industry Henadz Fiadynich answered this question, asked by “Salidarnasts”:

– This will not affect those who work by contract-bonus system. It’s public sector workers, drawing fixed salaries, who should worry about their wages.

I am more concerned that even these approved norms will not be performed. Because there will be unscheduled reductions of working hours, a four-day working week will reappear at the enterprises. This problem exists today and the Ministry of Labour should tackle it.

Today we need to make sure that people employed in the public sector and at the enterprises don’t have to work the entire day for only 300-350 Belarusian rubles, and were still able to do odd jobs somewhere else during their working day. The Ministry should voice unconventional offers. Calculation of working hours – such work is just fishing in the air.
