Eduard Palchys’ Wife: I Feel Eduard Becoming Harsher, By His Letters

Eduard Palchys’ Wife: I Feel Eduard Becoming Harsher, By His Letters
VICTORIA PALCHYS

The political prisoner is convinced he has done everything right at the most appropriate moment for Belarus.

The wife of the author of the website 1863x.com Eduard Palchys has told BelSAT TV-channel about the correspondence between herself and her husband.

Eduard remains behind the bars in the remand prison #1 in Valadarski Street in Minsk. Victoria got the last letter from him several days before the trial started.

“Sometimes he writes long letters, it’s when he writes about personal things. He is prohibited to write about the confinement conditions and other “technical’ issues,” – the political prisoner’s wife says.

Victoria has made a conclusion from her husband’s scanty notes that there are very many people in the cell. Eduard doesn’t smoke, but when he returned the things he didn’t need to his family, all clothes smelled like tobacco, even those he didn’t wear once.

“He writes that he has no conflicts with the cell-mates, that there are “intelligent people” beside him,” – Victoria Palchys says.

On Saturday, October 15 Eduard’s parents passed him a parcel. It is allowed to pass a parcel of 30 kilos in the remand prison once a month, while in penal colonies for convicts such parcels are allowed only once in three months. Eduard has warned his family so that they pass a parcel to Valadarski Street prison in case he is convicted. Victoria and Eduard’s parents have collected everything a convict is allowed to have: backgammon, checkers, historical encyclopedias and fiction. The big bag stays at the Palchys’ place so far.

“I feel my husband has become harsher, judging by the general tone of his letters. He writes that he “has done everything right” and rejoices he created this website at the most appropriate moment, when Belarus faced danger,” – Victoria has shared.

On October 17, the closed trial against the founder of the website 1863x.com has been resumed in the Minsk city court. Eduard Palchys’ wife Victoria and his lawyer Hanna Bakhtsina took the obligation on non-disclosure of the criminal case materials. The activists have been holding an action demanding to release Eduard Palchys under the court building for the second day.
