Academician Radzim Haretski has told like Lukashenka slipped out the energy independence of Belarus.

Lukashenka is trying to persuade president of Tatarstan to engage “Belarusneft” into working in the oil branch.

– We have a good company “Belarusneft”, but the volumes of extraction are declining. The oil was drained out and taken away from Belarus at a time,” – the dictator said at a meeting with president of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.

Is it true that someone drained all the oil out of the Belarusian subsurface, and most importantly - who took it and where? With such questions "Solidarity" addressed to scientist-geologist, former director of the Institute of Geochemistry and Geophysics of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus Radzim Haretski.

– They really drained a lot out of the Belarusian land: about 130 million tons of oil. However, this was far from all. We continue extracting about 1,5 million tons per annum, and the stock of oil that we have will be enough to cover our needs for 10-15 years, – the academician has replied. – As for who and where took the extracted oil, I am at a loss to answer. Most of it was produced back in the USSR times, so it is difficult to tell where and whether it had been taken.

In connection with Lukashenka’s desire to successfully achieve admission of “Belarusneft” to the work of Russia’s oil industry, academician Radzim Haretski recalls the events which happened in mid 90s.

– I offered Lukashenka to buy or take into concession several oil and gas deposits – in Kazakhstan (I worked a lot there) or West Siberia. It was worth it to try in Tatarstan as well. It was rather easy to do it back then. Lukashenka told me then, stop acting the fool, Russia will give us anything we ask for,” – Radzim Haretski has shared his memories.

– This is how we slipped out the right moment. Of course it was a mistake. Unfortunately, Lukashenka and other leaders were mostly engaged into politics rather than the economy back then. And today we found ourselves in total dependence on Russia.
