Director Of Minsk Tractor Plant Video: Lukashenka Asked To Fit Him In It

The 17-minutes image video of the Minsk Tractor Plant has won two “silver dolphins” at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards.

However, “The Breadwinner” is indicated as a Russian film at the festival’s website, and there is no Belarusian among the 15 languages it has been translated into. However, the film creators — the "LBL Production" studio from Novosibirsk — have told Euroradio, that the administration of the plant and Lukashenka liked the video.

“As far as I understand, Lukashenka watched it and was satisfied. He even asked to fit him into the video by the holiday (the 70th anniversary of the plant). I realize they have their own backstage over there,” — CEO and Co-founder of the "LBL Production", director of “The Breadwinner” Pavel Meniaylo says.

“They (the Minsk Tractor Plant) wanted stuff like: we heroically built the plant after the war, and then heroically manufactured a certain number of tractors. The thing is, they wanted a jubilee movie. They got a slightly different thing, — Pavel goes on. — The most difficult part was to explain, to negotiate and to persuade them to put their trust in us.”

According to the director, the concept of the film was written long ago, but the Minsk Tractor Plant kept on delaying the beginning of works — they had remained undecided for a long time. "And then, they said: "Yes, we want our money here. Let’s go! " - We has a month and a half before the holiday at that moment", — Pavel says. 52 days of this period the crew of "The Breadwinner" spent on the road. 11 countries, 46 flights.

Today, the film has been translated into 15 languages. Belarusian is not among them — as the director says, image movies are intended primarily for external audiences. In response to a question about the budget of the video, Pavel Meniaylo just smiles: "I have no right to reveal it, but it is not so much money, as they say in the comments. The expenses were large. We haven’t even earned enough to buy a tractor!"
