The action will be dedicated to the memory of the Belarusian intelligentsia, executed on the night of October 29-30.

October 29,1937 remains one of the most terrifying dates in the history of Belarus. Over 100 representatives of the Belarusian intelligentsia were shot dead on the night of October 29-30, Novy Chas writes.

The execution list, also signed by Stalin and Molotov, included such outstanding figures of the Belarusian culture as Ales Dudar, Mikhas Kamysh, Anatol Svabodny, Platon halavach, Mikhas Zaretski, Valery Marakou, Vasil Stasheuski, Todar Kliashtorny, Yanka Niomanski.

We must remember about such crimes to prevent them from happening ever again. That is why the “Young Front” calls to come to the KGB office at 7 p.m. on October 29 with candles and portraits of the people, killed by Communist executioners, to hold an action to commemorate the victims of the NKVD/KGB.

Zmitser Dashkevich explains the goal and the sense of the action:

“The Communist regime of the Soviet Union strived to demolish the national elite of Belarus firsthand, thus erasing the differences between the “fraternal peoples” and to subordinate our country to Moscow. If this is not true, then why it was the culture activists who got under the repression machine first? Why did they execute the teachers of the Belarusian language and literature first, among all the arrested teachers? What was the reason for repressing 90% of literature workers in 1920-30s? The very names from the execution list of October 29, 1937 remain the eternal sentence to the punitive Communist ideology. That is why we are calling for everyone to come to the KGB office in Minsk on October 29 at 7 p.m., to hold an action of memory of the victims, to show the offspring of the criminals that the crime will be condemned sooner or later; to show “the older brother” that, despite all crimes, “Belarus is alive and will live”.
