Lukashenka Did not Pay for Gas

Prime Minister of Russia arrived to settle the situation.

Belarus has still not transferred money to Russia for gas supplies.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich informed yesterday. The transfer of additional payment for Russian gas is associated with the signing of several agreements which must be considered by two governments. Deputy Prime Minister added that unless the agreements were signed, the Belarusian side would not transfer money for gas.

"These are related issues," Deputy Prime Minister stressed and noted that on Thursday Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev would pay a visit to Belarus; it is expected that answers including payments for Russian gas to be received there.

Dmitry Medvedev will take part in a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, which plans to discuss the draft of the new Customs Code, as well as to approve the draft budget of the Eurasian Economic Union for the following year. The issue will touch upon the development of a mechanism to monitor the movement of goods through the territory of the EEU.

Earlier Belarusian bureaucrats have repeatedly stated that the gas dispute with Russia ran dry, however, as it turns out, the money for Russian gas has not been paid out.

On October 11 Minister of Energy of Belarus Uladzimir Patupchyk informed journalists that until October 20 the country would pay out $281 million.

On October 19 Chairman of the National Bank of Belarus Pavel Kallaur told reporters that Belarus would pay for the Russian gas.

On October 10 Deputy Prime Minister Uladzimir Semashka informed about agreements reached with Russia in the field of energy supplies. At the same time informed that money for gas should be paid until October 25. "But I will address my Russian colleagues to do it by installments. Until the end of the year, for example," he said.
