Head of DoC: Society Is Used To Amnesty

No amnesty is expected in Belarus in the nearest future.

The head of the Interior Ministry's Department of Corrections Major General of Police Siarhei Daroshka said that during a question-and-answer phone session with the Sovetskaya Belorussia newspaper.

"For the present, there won't be any amnesty applied, – Major General of Police Daroshka explained to every person calling. – Such act of humanism has been applied to the convicted 14 times since our country gained independence and, in my opinion, the society has just got used to it. But we must understand that it is necessary to take into account not only the interests of those who are convicted and serving a sentence, but also of those affected by the criminals."

According to the head of the Department of Corrections, about a fifteen hundred people were released from the colonies before the term set by the court due to the early conditional release and replacement of their punishments with milder ones.
