The authorities’ tyranny should never stand in the way of mass actions.

Human rights defenders of the “Viasna” center started their struggle for more places allocated for mass events, as well as for changing the decision-making policy in the regions with regard to holding mass events, Radio Racyja reports.

A series of events were carried out in this direction, according to human rights defender Dzmitry Salauiou:

- A round-table discussion took place in Minsk, which gathered representatives of human rights organizations. As an outcome, we came to the conclusion that we needed to try and change the legislation, and struggle to remove the artificial barriers they tend to set up in the regions, and to minimize the tyranny of the local authorities by doing so.

According to Dzmitry Salauiou, there is a need to achieve allocation of places for holding mass events in the city centers, and to abolish the inadequate demands of the city and district executive committees, which contradict even the Belarusian laws.

By setting up the barriers for holding mass events, the authorities break the rights of not only human rights defenders and activists, but all the citizens who could convey their views on different life issues to the authorities through mass actions.
