Deceased School Student Promised A Bucket Of Potatoes For Fieldworks

The parents of the deceased schoolgirl are trying to prove in court that there were labour relations between their daughter and the farm.

8-grader Victoria Papchenia was promised a bucket of potatoes for the works on harvesting the potatoes at the field belonging to the state-owned farmstead “Voshod-Agro”. The girl’s father Aleh Papchenia said this during the trial, Euroradio reports.

“They explained to me there had been no labour relations, but I want to prove them wrong. My daughter harvested the potatoes — this is labour. The kids were told they would get a bucket of potatoes each for this,” — the girl’s father said.

Victoria’s parents are trying to prove in court that there were labour relations between their daughter and the farm. The labour inspectorate claims there were no such relations because the girl was just 13. According to the Belarusian legislation, labour relations can only start when a person is 14. Thus, the deceased girl’s parents won’t get the compensation for the occupational accident.

We remind, the accident happened on September 29. A 13-year-old schoolgirl Victoria Papchenia harvested the potatoes with her classmates. A MAZ vehicle ran over her and the girl died of injuries.

The Trade Union of Radio-Electronic Industry Workers is helping the girl’s parents stand up for their rights.
