Ukraine doesn't consider the assistance of Belarus in the organization of elections in the Donbass to be necessary.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said this to journalists after the meeting of foreign ministers of the "Norman Four" in Minsk.

He noted, that Belarus is an OBSE member and that it accepts the principles and standards of the organization.

Klimkin stated that OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights is assisting in the organization of the elections and it will also monitor them. According to BelaPAN, Belarus has acknowledged this mechanism as a member of the organization.

In her turn, the Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko said, that the country is able to hold elections in any region on its territory on its own. She also stressed, that Russia should not interfere in the elections in Ukraine, as it had done in Crimea.

"We don't need any assistance in organizing the elections, – Gerashchenko said. – What we need is help in forcing Russia to leave the territory of Ukraine."

This issue was raised after a press conference for Russian journalists held on November 17, on which Lukashenka said about the Donbass: "...We are ready to play any role there... If you want us to hold elections there, I mean fare elections, absolutely fare – the local elections, about which there was much talk, – we are ready to organize them. If you want these 400 kilometers of borders between Russia and the Donbass, between Ukraine and Russia, to be closed at this stage, to bring everything in order, – ok, we will do it."
