Lukashenka’s One-Billion Project On Fire In Turkmenistan?

A massive fire has been reported at the Garlyk Potassium Complex.

The video of the fire has been published at the Youtube-channel “Salihorsk Builders”.

We remind, the framework deal between the state concern “Turkmenkhimiya” and the JSC “Belgorkhimprom” (Belarus) on construction of the potassium mining and processing complex was signed in 2009. In 2010, the Belarusian company received the contract for projecting and construction of the mining and processing complex for the sum of over $ 1 billion.

According to the plan, the complex should have been built by 2015. However, the terms of starting the exploitation of the complex have been repeatedly postponed.

Due to the above, head of the “council of republic” Mikhail Miasnikovich even called Turkmenistan Ambassador onto the carpet in September 2016.

“Minsk is deeply concerned about continuous non-fulfillment of the taken financial and other obligations with regard to construction of the Garlyk potassium mining and processing complex, by the Turkmen side,” - Miasnikovich told Ambassador of Turkmenistan Nazarguly Shagulyev back then.

On May 11, during his visit to Minsk, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov promised that the construction of the Garlyk mining and processing complex was planned to be completed by the end of March in 2017.

Lukashenka confirmed that during the meeting in Minsk the parties agreed that “the complex will be started and produce the first lot of fertilizers in the outlined terms.”
