National Statistical Committee: Number Of Belarusians Below Poverty Line Is Growing

Official statistics are no longer able to hide the failure of Lukashenka’s economy.

The number of Belarusians, who are below the poverty line, is growing. Thus, in the third quarter of 2016 the proportion of citizens with the level of income below the subsistence minimum was 5.7%, whereas in the second quarter – 5.5%, in the first – 5.4%, BelaPAN reports referring to the National Statistical Committee.

It is to be recalled that from 1 May to 30 June 2016, the cost of living per capita amounted to 1 million 699 thousand 430 rubles (without redenomination) a month.

Less than 150 redenominated rubles per capita a month had 2.9% of the population in the third quarter of this year (in the second – 2.8%), 150-200 rubles – 7.2% (7.7%), 200-250 – 12.2% (11.4%) 250-300 – 12.7% (13.4%) 300-350 – 14.8% (14.4%) 350-400 – 11.8% ( 12.4%) 400-500 – 16.8% (15.8%) 500-600 – 8.6% (8.7%), 600 – 13% (13.6%).

As previously reported, cash income per capita amounted to 508.2 rubles a month in Belarus in January-September 2016. For comparison, in January-September 2015 the figure was 488.5 rubles.

Thus, the average per capita income increased by 4% over the year. At the same time, the real disposable income of the population, taking into account the inflation, fell by 7.2% over the year.
