Makaeu: I Call Upon All Belarusians To Support Sole Traders On October Square

Sole traders, who disagree with cancellation of the meeting in Minsk by Perspektiva organisation, decided to gather on Kastrychnitskaya (October) Square in Minsk at the noon on February 15.

Radio Svaboda was told about that by one of the leaders of small businessmen’s movement in Minsk Aliaksandr Makaeu.

“This decision was taken by sole traders of different regions of Belarus – together we reached an agreement on the place and the time. That is why on behalf of sole traders I call upon craft, corporative solidarity, which our ancestors from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania had, when many cities had Magdeburg rights, and craftsmen could jointly assert their professional and civil rights. Such a moment has come now for all sole traders of Belarus as well. We have a legal right for a peaceful protest in our struggle for our right to labour.

On my own behalf, as a leader of the movement of sole traders I welcome and urge all public movements, political parties and all citizens of the country to support our protest. Our protest will be strong due to common solidarity in the fight for the right to labour and to a dignified life for all citizens of Belarus,” – Aliaksandr Makaeu said.

Makaeu noted that sole traders are indignant at insults addressed to them by Aliaksandr Lukashenka during his meeting with the minister of trade.
