Convicts To Pay For Examinations In Their Cases

Related amendments to the Criminal Procedural Code of Belarus come into force on February 27.

Journalists have learnt that from the head of the main directorate of Special Forensics of the State Committee of Forensic Examination Henadz Shauliukevich, BelaPAN informs.

In particular, he noted that examination of illicit drugs is an expensive process. Expert examinations are usually held at expense of the state budget. As said by the expert, in 2015 the State Committee of Forensic Examination spent Br58 billion for chemical reagents and expendable materials only.

After the law comes in force, convicts are to be charged money spent on purchase of expendables, maintenance and special equipment repair. It is to cover about 14% of general costs of examining.

Amounts collected are not to be transferred to forensic institutions, but to the state budget.
