The officials justify the retirement age lift.

The society is psychologically prepared for the retirement age lift. Chairman of the State Control Committee of Belarus Leanid Anfimau expressed such opinion at yesterday’s meeting with the staff of the Saleo Limited Liability Company – the head company of the holding (Dzerzhinsk, Minsk region), BelTA correspondent informs.

"Today’s Belarus has such economic and demographic conditions that demand that the retirement issue should be solved, - Leanid Anfimau said. – In my view, the society is psychologically prepared for the retirement age lift. The active enlightening activity has played its part as well”.

According to the State Control Committee Head, many Belarusian pensioners continue to work after retirement, the quality of the people’s lives has significantly improved, as well as their health – this generation cannot even be compared with the previous ones in this regard. "If they decide to gradually increase the age limit for retirement for men and women by 3 years, this will be the most reasonable step to take in the current conditions. The final decision will be taken by the President in the near future", - the State Control Committee Head noted.

As for the start of these innovations, the year 2017 may become the starting point. "The Social Protection Fund is experiencing the budget deficit for the pensions payment because the employers’ and employees’ contributions for social protection cannot satisfy the need for paying pensions as the number of pensioners is growing. This gap may amount up to Br 3 trillion b the end of the year,” - Leanid Anfimau added.

Answering the question about the gender difference in the retirement age, asked by the Company’s employee, the Chairman of the State Control Committee focused on the fact that women bear a double burden as they work and perform household duties and take care of the children. As for the low life expectancy of men, it is caused also by the mortality in the working age, the reasons for which include the riskier behavior than the one of women, alcohol abuse, smoking, unhealthy lifestyle. And the actual period of receiving pensions for men is not dramatically lower than that for women.
