Foreign Investors Withdraw Money From Belarus

We can expect that by the end of the year investors will have withdrawn about $ 2 billion from the country.

According to the balance of payments of the Republic of Belarus prepared by the National Bank, in the first quarter of this year investors earned less money in Belarus as compared to the previous year. Their investment income decreased by $ 180 million, amounting to 1.6 billion, Belrynak writes.

Despite this, investors’ dividends have increased. Investors received $ 270 million of dividends against 190 million in the same period last year. As the result, the share of income that investors withdrew from Belarus, was 40%. Only for the first quarter they took away 680 million.

The dividend growth is likely to reflect the reduction of business activity in Belarus, and it makes no sense for foreign investors to expand their activities in our country. A typical example is Home Credit Bank, where the owners decided to transform it into a credit and financial institution.

We can expect that by the end of the year, investors will have withdrawn about $ 2 billion from the country and reinvest only about 1 billion.
