Sheremet Case: FBI To Help To Identify Suspects

Sheremet Case: FBI To Help To Identify Suspects
PAVEL SHEREMET

The National Police of Ukraine have addressed to the FBI asking for help in identification of the persons who had put explosives under Pavel Sheremet’s car.

Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine Vadym Troyan has informed this to the Ukrayinska Pravda.

“We have addressed to the FBI and they promised they would not just help us with the composite photos. They have more powerful programs on search and facial identification,” – he has said.

Troyan has also told that they are expecting the FBI’s response on the explosives issue within a month.

“The experts got several expertises, what was the mechanism composed of, but haven’t discovered yet how it detonated,” – Troyan has informed.

He has also provided more details of the versions of the Belarusian journalist’s murder.

“There were six versions in the beginning and now there are only four. The first one is the Russian trace. This might be his former work, a provocation regarding Ukraine,” – he has said.

“The second one is the Ukrainian version. It might be the subjects of the journalist investigations, or the structures which the Ukrayinska Pravda wrote about, and they could get proactive before autumn. It remains very important to study who might benefit from this murder in Ukraine,” – he has added.

“The third version concerns his personal life. We consider that the terrorist act could have been aimed against founding editor and head of the Ukrayinska Pravda Olena Prytula, for instance, for the sake of revenge. We do realize what the activity of Olena Prytula is,” – Troyan has noted.

“The fourth version is the lunatic fringes, who could have come from the occupied territories or from elsewhere, they could, for example, consider Sheremet a traitor. This could be some personal revenge. A lunatic fringe is a separate category, the most dangerous weapon,” - Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine has underlined.

Troyan has also informed that the investigation obtained more video records, so the sector got wider. “We now understand the way the suspects moved better,” – Troyan has said.

As charter97.org informed before, Pavel Sheremet died in the morning on July 20 in a car blast.

The explosive device was put close to the driver’s seat.

The police qualified the occurrence under the article “premeditated murder, committed by the method, dangerous for the lives of many persons”.

General Prosecutor of Ukraine Yuryi Lutsenko has claimed the basic version of Sheremet’s murder is revenge for his professional activity. However, the investigation is considering four versions.

On August 4, the investigators informed that, in the framework of the case, they had interrogated about 500 witnesses, seized about 150 video cameras, the investigation has over 140 terabytes of information.
