Babruisk Activist Tormented In Zhlobin District Police Department

Aliaksandr Dziatkou was kept without food and water for more than eight hours in Zhlobin district police department, in order he accused himself.

Babruisk BCD activist Aliaksandr Dziatkou informed the press service of the Belarusian Christian Democracy, that on August 17, two men in civilian clothes came to the apartment, where he lives, and asked him to go with them. One of them presented his identity certificate in name of policeman Kanstantsin Dyba.

The activist went to the bathroom to call a lawyer, his acquaintance, but the police broke in, snatched the phone and, having twisted his hands, dragged him half-naked out of the apartment and put him in the car parked on the lawn. Only then he was allowed to put on a jacket, which Aliaksandr Dziatkou’s father had managed to hand over.

He was brought to the police department building and taken to one of the offices. Nobody told the activist what he was accused of. Only the police officer, who introduced himself as Kanstantsin Mazurau, asked if he had a motorcycle (he does not have a motorcycle). Half an hour later Aliaksandr Dziatkou in handcuffs was again taken into a car with a Homel region registration plate and driven to Zhlobin.

On the way the policemen insulted activist, acquitting themselves roughly. He did not manage to find out what he was accused of in the Zhlobin district police department as well. Instead, they started to intimidate him(hit the table with a baton, stroke him in his face and kicked in the ankles), compassing him to self-incrimination. Aliaksandr Dziatkou was taken to different offices, different people talked to him, persuading to write a confession.

“A detention report was not drawn up, was not I given an opportunity to use the services of my lawyer, my mobile phone was seized and I couldn’t ring my friend, a lawyer, to ask him for legal assistance in this difficult situation. Without my consent policeman copied phone numbers from my mobile phone, which I had dialed, and the phone numbers of the people, who had phoned me – my personal information,” – Aliaksandr Dziatkou said.

He was detained for more than eight hours without food and water in Zhlobin district police department, being released at 18:52.

“After that I found myself alone in a strange town, with no money, not knowing how to get home (Babruisk is 65 km away),” – the activist said.

We remind that recently another fact of police lawlessness became known. On August 4, masked men broke into pediatrician Dzmitry Serada’s apartment: without explanations they smashed the doors, came down from the roof and broke the balcony door glass in the kitchen.
