Chairman of the Central Election Commission sees the value of the arrest of Uladzimir Kondrus detained in June for participation in events of December 19, 2010.

Lidziya Yermoshyna said in the interview on "Simple Questions" show of the СТВ TV channel on the evening of August 18.

"I have recently been asked about one of those arrested in connection with the events of 2010. He is identified by accident. There is much sensation on the Internet and so on. And when I say: "Doesn't the EU hold people who committed crimes close to terrorism liable? Then I receive an answer: "Well, this is not terrorism," BelaPAN quotes the head of the CEC.

Yermoshyna continues: "Well, yes, he did not take me hostage. He just broke windows of the Government House and tried to break into it. But in case, if he took someone that would have been a different story. "

"At the long last, there must be certain preventive measures aimed at protection of citizens", she said.

As previously reported, on August 3 it became known that there was found a new person involved - a resident of the Rudensk village (Pukhavichy district, Minsk region) Uladzimir Kondrus - in the criminal case on mass protests on the day of the presidential election on December 19, 2010.

According to human rights activists, Kondrus was taken into custody on June 14 and he goes on a long-term hunger strike to protest against his imprisonment in the remand prison. It is also known that the state of Kondrus deteriorated. His parents saw him on August 9 and told human rights activists that the aggravation of stomach ulcer caused critical condition and he could not walk.

On August 10 Belarusian human rights organizations recognized Kondrus a political prisoner.
