Polish Foreign Minister Made Personal Accusations Against Lukashenka
RADOSŁAW SIKORSKI

He called on the EU for solidarity against the dictator.

Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said Lukashenka was "the source of the migration problem" and called the crisis a "hybrid invasion". The Polish diplomat called on the EU institutions for solidarity in order to be able to repel this attack, the PAP agency reports.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski touched upon the topic of irregular migrants at a joint press conference with his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock. They met on May 1 in the town of Słubice on the border with Germany on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Poland's membership in the European Union.

On the other side is the city of Frankfurt an der Oder, and German officials had previously re-established border controls there due to migrants.

Sikorsky blamed Lukashenka for the migration crisis: "We must clearly understand who is the source of this problem. It’s Lukashenka."

He, according to the minister, abolished the visa regime for many countries in order to push people who come from there to the EU: "Law enforcement officers in Belarus force them to try to cross the Polish, European border."

The Foreign Minister also did not rule out that Lukashenka wants to force Poland to somehow pay off, so that the flow of migrants stops.

"We cannot succumb to this blackmail," Sikorsky said.

At the same time, he noted that freedom of movement within the Schengen area is due to the effective protection of external borders.

"We need the solidarity of the EU institutions and other member states in repelling the hybrid invasion that Lukashenka launched against us," the Polish Foreign Minister said.
