Lukashenka authorized a European Commission office in Belarus

With his decree, Lukashenka approved the project of the Agreement of Belarus and the European Commission on establishment, empowerment, and immunities of the European Commission office in Belarus, the press-service of the head of state told Interfax.

According to the press-service, the project of the agreement implies that Belarus authorizes the European Commission office, recognizes legal personality of each European community: the right to sign contracts, purchase property, and use it to the extent necessary for adequate performance.

Moreover, the representative office, its head and members, and their families residing with them are granted on reciprocal basis the rights and diplomatic privilege, in particular, inviolability of premises, correspondence and archives, legal immunity, tax reductions.

“The agreement will be temporarily implemented from the date of conclusion. Deputy Foreign Minister Valery Varanetski was empowered to negotiate on the project of the agreement,” Lukashenka’s press-service reported.
