Party leaders broke through to "parliament"

The leaders of the United Civil Party, the Party of Communist Belarusian and the Belarusian Socio-Democratic Party (Hramada) – Anatol Liabedzka, Siarhei Kaliakin and Anatol Liaukovich – managed to enter the building of the “house of representatives” of the “national assembly” and hand in the signatures against the canceling of privileges.

Together with the representatives of 40 election districts they came to the parliament building on Independence Square, where 2 October the autumn session of the lower house began in order to hand in the signatures to the “deputies”.

It should be reminded that the “house of representatives” deputies practically unanimously voted for the law, canceling the privileges for different categories of people in late May 2007. The law is to come into force after 17 December.

The people in civvies and special troops staff (former OMON) didn’t let A. Liabedzka enter the “parliament” building. He came later than S. Kaliakin and A. Liaukovich, who were already inside. After a short fight the UCP leader managed to enter the “parliament”.

According to S. Kaliakin, more than 40.000 signatures were gathered and the representatives of 40 election districts have arrived in Minsk today to hand the signatures in. They will initiate the recall of the “deputies” if the privileges are canceled.
