New head of “palatka” Vadim Papou spoke for cooperation with the EU

Vadim Papou elected chairman of the ”house of representatives”(“palatka”) of the “national assembly” of Belarus at the secret vote on Tuesday. He headed the international affairs and relations with CIS parliament commission before.

According to Interfax correspondent, 94 “deputies” voted for a candidature of V. Papou to the post of the lower house speaker, 13 voted against.

For Siarhei Haidukevich, nominated himself for the post of the chairman, voted 5 “deputies”, against – 102.

The chairman was elected by secret vote using voting paper.

V. Papou remarked in his speech that Belarus should establish cooperation with the EU, but this cooperation must be mutual.

Speaking about the internal policy, he remarked that the parliament must improve the mechanisms of the law adoption. “We should solve the internal problems in contact with president”, - V. Papou declared.
