Youth leader Artur Finkevich under threat of imprisonment

Mahilou Prosecutor’s Office has entered a new criminal case against Artur Finkevich, political prisoner, the organization “Young Front” activist – for violation of the regime during the term of serving punishment. Artur has been serving his punishment for two years in Mahilou commandant’s office for political graffiti he had made during the presidential election campaign. He was isolated 26 October when 1.5 months left before his term was out. Now prison threatens Artur.

The investigator of Mahilou Prosecutor’s Office served charge on Artur Finkevich in detention facility. Artur has four warnings for violation of the regime in the open type institution, Radio Svaboda reported.

According to the Criminal Code, three warnings are enough to bring up a criminal case and send it to court.

The “Young Front” activists think the criminal case against Artur Finkevich is a result of motivated repression policy of the authorities against the “Young Front” members.

Within the last month three criminal cases against Andrus Tianiuta, Kiryl Atamanchyk and Arsen Yahorchanka have been brought up in Homel area.

Zmiter Dashkevich, co-head of the “Young Front” who is serving 1.5 year of imprisonment is under the threat of new term of prison. On the similar accusation seven organization’s activists were judged.

“It is one more vivid evidence of another wave of repressions against the “Young Front”, - youth leader Paval Seviarynets says. - At the same time, the trial over Zmiter Dashkevich is to take place, Andrus Tianiuta was has been called to psychoneurological institution in Homel, the attempts to exclude the students in Minsk, Mahilou, Polatsk are made. Undoubtedly, it is the revenge for courage and belief of the “Young Front’s” struggle”.

Mikola Statkevich thinks that the political motives in the criminal case against Artur Finkevich are evident:

For sure, it is an evident political order, because there are people in open type institutions, who have not four warnings like Artur, when a criminal case can be brought up according to the Criminal Code, but those who have 14, 15, 16 warnings …

I saw people who get drunk if they have even little money and fight regularly, and they are sent home after they have served a third of the term, in order they pay some amount of money… Of course, it is a political order”.

Artur Finkevich is beginning to study the materials of the criminal case soon.
