Belarusian officials do not want to discuss human rights issues

Souhayr Belhassen, President of the International Federation for Human Rights has been in Minsk for the third day. She declared that the situation with the human right in Belarus is the tightest in the region. The aim of her mission is to support the civil society in Belarus and study the conditions of detention and cases of cruel attitude towards the people in custody.

We remind, that Souhayr Belhassen has shown her willingness to meet with four ministries’ representatives – the ministries of justice, information, foreign and internal affairs.

But none of the ministries has answered, though it was early said in the Embassy of Belarus in France they had made their best to organize a meeting at least in the Foreign Ministry, Radio Svaboda reports.

At the same time, according to MFA Press Secretary Andrei Papou, the MFA has received the request of Souhayr Belhassen for a meeting and they know she is in Belarus now. But ”it depends on the schedule of certain officials and chiefs of ministries whether a meeting will takes place”, - A. Papou says.
