“Are you a European? Come out, show your choice. Only slaves stay at home,” BPF Party (Belarusian People’s Front) vice leader Viktar Ivashkevich said at a press-conference held in Minsk.

Chairperson of the organization committee for the European March Viktar Ivashkevich told journalists that despite the arrests of information materials (newspapers, leaflets, stickers with invitations to come to the European March) the action to be held on October 14 in Minsk is well known.

“How many people will come out? - All those who live in Minsk and consider themselves Europeans. Now it depends on every Belarusian whether Belarus will choose the European route or we will stay swamp people for ever. If 100 thousand come out, Belarus is sure to choose this route. If 1 thousand comes out, there is only one percent that Belarus will get the European way. Thus, each person is one fraction of the force that influences the situation. There is no point in justifying one’s laziness and indifference moaning that the opposition does everything wrong, the slogans are wrong, the route is wrong… Are you a European? Come out, show your choice. Only slaves stay home,” the politician said.

The organization committee members talked about international support of the March, Radio Svaboda reports. The action is to be attended by European officials, as BPF Party chairperson Vintsuk Viachorka said at a press-conference.

“Deputies of the European Parliament, parliaments of the EU countries that border on Belarus are to join the March. We have invited speaker of the European Parliament Hans-Georg Potering, European Commission representatives; we also invite reporters on Belarus from various assemblies as well as reporter on Belarus Andrea Rigoni. He has resolved to arrive to Belarus, but after the March - on 16-17October. President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Goran Lenmarker has also been invited.”

The people will get together on Kastrychnitskaya Square and the column is to march towards the National Library.

The place of gathering is very important to us. The most essential events took place in Kastrychnitskaya Square. As for traffic, the avenue is a good place for a great number of people to move. The destination we will march to is the monument of Skaryna…” UCP (United Civil Party) leader Anatol Liabedzka said.
