Volha Zavadskaya is searching for people, responsible for her son disappearance

Volha Zavadskaya demanded from General Prosecutor to bring to responsibility the high-ranked officials of Belarus in the connection with the disappearance of her son, journalist Zmiter Zavadski, and missing opposition politicians.

The intercession was addressed to General Prosecutor. It contains request to examine the attached crime bill where it is said that in disappearance of opposition leaders Yury Zakharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski and journalist Zmiter Zavadski the high-ranked Belarusian officials are concerned, including Viktar Sheiman, State Secretary of the Security Council, Yuru Sivakou, former minister of internal affairs, Uladzimir Navumau, current minister of internal affairs, Zmiter Pauluchenka, commander of military unit № 3214 and Mikalai Vasilchanka, former Chief of Lukashenka’s security service.

In the intercession, prepared by lawyer Hary Pahaniaila is also said that yet in January 2003 a request to bring up a criminal case against the mentioned persons on the basis of elements of a crime according to the article 122 of the Criminal Code (Crime against human security) had been sent to the head of Belarusian KGB. But the destiny of the request is unknown till now.

Volha Zavadskaya also reminds that terms of preliminary investigation of the case were prolonged many times. The last term is to end 24 December 2007. At the same time the investigation has never given any information worthy of note about the results of the inquest for 8 years. The demands to dismiss from offices the suspected persons according to the article 131 of the Criminal code of Belarus weren’t satisfied.

According to the materials of the criminal case on Zmiter Zavadski’s disappearance, the crime was committed by Y. Ihnatouski and M. Malik togehter with other people unknown to the investigation. More that 5 years have passed since the verdict, but till now there is no information about the activities taken by investigation to search for those “unknown” persons. The destiny of Zmiter Zavadski hasn’t yet been determined, too.

The authors of the intercession demand to give comprehensive information on the questions raised in the document, and empathize the appeal is the last one to exhaust all means of internal law.
