Arnold Vaatz: «Belarusian authorities possess a ball»

Deputy head of Christian Democratic Fraction of the Bundestag Arnold Vaatz declared that the EU shouldn’t change its strategy on Belarusian issue until all political prisoners are released in the country.

“The Belarusian authorities possess a ball now, and they are able to give a signal they are ready to meet European behavior standards in greater degree then before. I hope it will be so,” Arnold Vaatz said in the interview to Deutsche Welle.

At the same time the politician noted that the EU could soften its position towards the Belarusian authorities if they release imprisoned on different criminal cases oppositionists.

“It’s possible only if the official Minsk demonstrates its readiness for a dialog with concrete actions. One of such signals can become amnesty of all political prisoners we know. It would become a reason for intensifying the dialog,” Arnold Vaatz said.
