Pensioners will protest

Brest activists of the Party of Communists Belarusian (PCB) sent 16 applications for holding pickets against repeal of benefits on 29 November. 10 of the action applicants are pensioners.

As Lyudmila Dzenisenka, first secretary of the of the PKB city council, said to BelaPAN, actions of protest are to be held on the day of solidarity with political prisoners, the day before the law on repeal of benefits comes into force.

“All applications were filed from dwellers of the area capital according to the law “On mass events in the Republic of Belarus”. It’s notable that ten of the applicants are pensioners,” L. Dzenisenka said.

According to her, the pickets are planned to be held near 5 city markets, supermarkets, and five – at the central city square, two more pickets – at the stadium “Lokomotiv”.

“It’s not excluded that the authorities can find “strong” reasons and reject holding of protest action, aimed not only at repeal of benefits, but also against state social policy in general. People are indignant at canceling the social privileges. It was demonstrated convincingly at meeting of Brest representatives in the “house of representatives” Aleg Vyalichka, Svyatlana Gil and Valyantina Kachan with electorate, held on 26 November,” L. Dzenisenka said.

According to the information she has, the PCB activists are going to send 14 similar applications to Brest City Executive Committee on 30 November.
