Paval Yuhnevich at large after 22 days of prison

Paval Yuhnevich at large after 22 days of prison

Youth Leader Paval Yuhnevich was released from the special prison facility in Akrestin Street 2 November. He spent there 22 days for the participation in the European March.

According to Yuhnevich, “the keeping conditions have become stricter. The food is very bad, people have problems with health because of lack of vitamins”. During his arrest the activist got a cold twice.

According to Paval, the hardest was absence of parcels from outside and ban to walk outdoor.

Yuhnevich was shocked with the efficiency of colony’s workers – he had written an appeal asking for an appointment with a lawyer 20 October, but the lawyer received it two days ago, after 11 days.

Democratic activist Paval Yuhnevich was sentenced to 15 days of arrest by the Minsk Central District Court 19 October. No sooner had the activist been released from the especial prison facility in Akrestin Street after 7 days of arrest for the European March organization, than he was detained again. A militia car drove to special prison and the oppositionist was guarded to the Minsk Central District Internal Affairs Department. There, yet 22 August, a report was drawn up against him for allegedly “using obscene language”. Indeed, Yuhnevich was detained on that day together with 50 spectators and actors of the “Free Theatre” at performance of Edward Bond’s play ”11 Shirts’’. The spectators and actors were released, but the militiamen draw up a fabricated report against the youth activist.

Yuhnevich was given a request of summon for 11.00 a.m. 19 October. According to the law the activist should have been released. In order not to do so, another report was drawn up against him. Allegedly, for using obscene language, too.

The evidence of OMON soldiers was height of cynicism. They said Yuhnevich used obscene language when he was walking down Kulman Street 18 October. But the oppositionist wasn’t set free even for a moment – he was either in the special prison, or in the militia car, or in District Internal Affairs Department all the time!
