Artur Finkevich has trial soon

Former presidential candidate Alyaksandr Milinkevich addressed ambassadors of the foreign states on 17 December and asked them to support one of the organisation Young Front leaders Artur Finkevich.

The politician is a head of the public committee on release A. Finkevich. Court of the Pershamaiski District of Minsk sentenced A. Finkevich to 2 years of imprisonment on 10 May, 2006. He was found guilty according to the part 2 of the article 339 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism). The young man was detained in Minsk at night 30 January, 2006 for drawing graffiti “We want a new one!” 7 July, 2007 he was denied parole release, and a new trial will start up in the Magilou court on 20 December. A. Finkevich is charged according to the article 415 of the criminal Code (evasion of serving a term of imprisonment). He can face up to 3 years in prison.

“Artur Finkevich is a young man of high morality, he is doing his best in instilling public spirit, respect to national traditions, national language, culture and history in the youth,” A,. Milinkevich writes in his application. “He was thrown behind the bars only because he used the fundamental right to express his views.”

A. Milinkevich asks the governments of the countries represented by the diplomats “to show solidarity with Artur Finkevich and other Belarusian political prisoners,” and “take necessary measures to influence Belarusian authorities in order they release unconditionally political prisoners and stop political repressions in Belarus.”

According to BelaPAN, A. Milinkevich is going to visit the trial in the Magilou court on 20 December.
