A Strange Strike

Informational agency “Interfax” has informed today that market vendors and entrepreneurs of Dinamo market in Minsk are on a strike on Wednesday. The agency has informed that only a few stalls work on Dinamo market, while others are closed.
The entrepreneurs on strike state that the strike is held as a protest against presidential Decree, in accordance with which since January 1, 2008 entrepreneurs would be able to hire only close relatives. The entrepreneurs in strike promise to restart work on Thursday, Interfax informs.
The Charter’97 press-center has checked these reports. At 12.30 three fourths of entrepreneurs were working. Only one forth of them was on strike.
The leader of the public association “Perspektyva” Anatol Shumchanka says that market vendors of several other markets of Minsk have announced a strike: Zhdanovichy. Zerkala. Parking, Chervenski, Atlantik, Uruchcha, Expobel, Europa, Kupalauski, Ryha, and in Hrodna market “Paudniovy”. We hope that the strike has a more massive support there.
