Action in support of entrepreneurs’ meeting

Activists of youth opposition held an action in support of entrepreneurs’ requirements in Minsk on 6 December.

About ten young people fastened a banner “Freedom for Private Business” to the railing of the bridge linking Nezalezhnasti Avenue and Maskouskaya Street at about 7 p.m. After that the young people walked down Maskouskaya Street, spreading leaflets calling to support entrepreneurs’ requirements and come out to the rally on 10 December.

Entrepreneurs were going to hold a meeting on Kastrychnitskaya (October) Square as a protest of coming into force the paragraph 1.1 of the president’s decree № 760 of 29 December, 2006. According to this paragraph individual entrepreneurs can employ only their family members and close relatives from 1 January, 2008. The representatives of the Minsk City executive Committee and the Ministry of Internal Affairs said at the meeting with applicants for the action that holding a meeting on

Kastrychnitskaya Square was banned. Entrepreneurs didn’t agree with this and declared the meeting would take place on Kastrychnitskaya Square.
