The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Lluís Maria de Puig has stated that the PACE is ready to take steps to meet Belarusian regime. According to him, isolation of Belarus is impeding, both for the PACE and for the country. “However, it is Lukashenka who does not want to have anything to do with us now”, Lluís Maria de Puig added.

“We suggest he behave just like everyone else, but he refuses to undertake the obligations already accepted by all European countries. Apparently, Lukashenka thinks the whole world is wrong and only he is right,” the newly-appointed PACE head Lluís Maria de Puig said in an interview to Kommersant.

At the same time, Lluís Maria de Puig said that “Lukashenka is welcome to turn to the CE anytime and undertake the obligations”. “We will try to do our best to somehow establish contact, to open the doors, s as to make Belarus’ integration into Europe possible,” the newly-appointed PACE head promised.
